Unity is crucial to the life and walk of the believer. Woven throughout the scriptures of the Bible, unity is a common theme. It started in Genesis 1:26, “Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us…” Even God, could not create the Heaven and the Earth alone, so what makes us believe that this walk was something He designed for us to endure by ourselves? He knew that without having unity with His Son and His Spirit, we would not have the proper tools we needed to be successful while on earth.
Unity is defined as the oneness of mind, feeling, etc., as among a number of persons; concord, harmony, or agreement. One person who understood the principle of unity well is David. In Psalms 34:3, he states “Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.” David was anointed, even being described as a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22). David knew that without unity, first with God and also God’s people, he was nothing. There was something about praising the Lord as one, that shifted the atmosphere. David had the secret, and the secret was unity.
As a body of Christ, we must take this posture that David had. We must desire to be unified and praise the Lord together. Imagine what blessings are locked away because of our disunity. Imagine the soul that is not being saved because of our refusal to work together. If one person wins, we all win.
What are some ways that you can show unity in your local fellowship? When was the last time you rejoiced along with your fellow brother or sister in Christ?
