In this season at Advance Church Columbus, we have been talking about the importance of faith. Hebrews 11:1 explains “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” Faith is critical to the life of the believer. It can be easy to allow unbelief and doubt to take place while waiting on the promises of God. When doubt and unbelief rise up, we have to combat it with faith in the character of God. We see in 1 Samuel 17: 45-47 David was able to kill a giant named Goliath. While Goliath was taunting the Israelite Army, David believed in the character of God to attack Goliath.
1 Samuel 17: 45-47
David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. “Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel! And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord’s battle, and he will give you to us!””
David believed in the character and track record of God over the natural circumstance. Are you believing in your circumstances more than the character of God? I encourage you to begin to let the character of God speak louder than your situation by believing God. There are so many ways to build our faith in God. An example is through the Word of God.
